OKLAHOMA CITY, August 23, 2012 – The new Terex RS446D Reclaimer/Stabilizer features a powerful 415 hp (309 kW) diesel engine that meets stringent Tier 4i and Stage IIIB emissions standards. The new engine configuration improves fuel efficiency over previous RS446 models and reduces noise levels to the operator’s ear by 5 dBA for improved operator comfort. With the machine’s two-stage engine drive and three-speed cutter transmission that increases break-out force, the RS446D rivals the performance of 500-hp-class machines, while saving up to 30 percent on fuel costs.

Incorporated into the new design, a shorter engine cowling improves the operator’s line of sight to the front of the machine. The new hydraulically tilting hood offers easy access to engine components for quick servicing. The engine configuration in the RS446D positions all engine components, including the oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and battery, in a single service center accessed from ground level, reducing maintenance time for the service technician.

The RS446D boasts a standard full-width cab with an upgraded heating and cooling system to improve operator comfort. A second evaporator and blower significantly increase airflow to the eight adjustable HVAC system outlets, so the cab remains cool even in the most extreme summer temperatures. Tinted cab glass also helps to reduce temperatures inside the cab. A unique sliding operator station improves visibility to both sides of the reclaimer/stabilizer.

Compared to the C Series, the RS446D increases torque to the mechanical cutter drive system. This, combined with three rotor speed selections, allows the operator to more effectively match cutter speed to the application, improving reclaiming and stabilizing efficiency. The RS446D offers a 96-in (243.8-cm) cutting width and a maximum 20-in (50.8-cm) cutting depth, depending on soil conditions.

A redesigned water/emulsion system moves major components from the side of the machine to underneath the hood. With this new design, the system’s pump and plumbing are now in a more concealed location, reducing the chance for damage to increase uptime. The system’s fill-point remains easily accessed on the machine’s outside, but it features more robust protection for enhanced durability. To improve machine versatility, the RS446D offers both water-only and water/emulsion systems.

The RS446D boasts some of the same designs as its predecessor that improves machine reliability and servicing ease in the field. A simplified frame design significantly reduces the number of frame components, boosting machine uptime. Its two-piece, bolt-together frame offers unobstructed access to the engine. Located at the rear of the machine, the RS446D’s service center provides single-point access for fueling and maintenance of hydraulic fluid and central lube systems. Conveniently located service access panels in the frame offer greater access to hydraulic pumps and the drive system.

This reclaimer/stabilizer features a true rear axle design for efficient performance. Kingpins replace spindles at the wheels to allow the tires to pivot close to the frame, offering a tight 14-ft (4.3-m) turning radius.  Four steering modes – crab, coordinated, front only and rear only – improve machine maneuverability and flexibility at the job site

The Terex RS446D Reclaimer/Stabilizer has a transport weight of 59,380-lb (26,934-kg) with standard cab and water system. The machine’s transport height with cab and ROPS is 11-ft, 6-in (3.5-m) and width is 10-ft, 4-in (3.2-m).
